RERUN REACTOR

Bring your own game. The reactor supplies nothing but the fire.

Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, in this tab, on the open-source Community Edition engines — your own copy, read locally, uploaded nowhere.

The full intake statement

Rerun Reactor runs Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 in your browser on their open-source Community Edition engines, compiled to WebAssembly. It ships no game content — not one line of dialogue, not one rat. You bring your own legally purchased copy. Your files are read on your machine, held in your browser, and never uploaded to us or to anyone. We have no server for them to go to. We did not build one. It seemed like a liability.

Copy to hand?

Choose the install folder

Select your install directory. The browser copies what it needs into local storage, and nothing leaves this machine at any point.

Or drop a .zip

Submit the archive unmodified. It is read entry by entry, directly off disk, so a multi-gigabyte file is never required to fit in memory.

Or use your CD

Submit a .cue with its .bin, or a lone .bin or .iso. The image is read sector by sector.

Discs are version 1.0. The 1.02 patch is offered immediately after. Please do not decline it out of nostalgia.

  • Open-source engines — fallout1-ce, fallout2-ce
  • Saves export as plain .zip — they outlive this website
  • No account. No game-file upload. No game server.
  • Erase everything. One button.
Required materials

Present master.dat and critter.dat. Both are mandatory: the first is the world, the second is everyone in it who wants something from you. patch000.dat is strongly recommended and repairs defects dating to original manufacture. Include a loose data/ folder if your install has one — it holds the soundtrack. Playing without it is permitted, merely bleak.

Fallout 2 running in a browser tab: an isometric view of a town centre with
buildings, scenery and characters, and the game's interface bar across the
                     bottom of the screen.
Open-air commerce. Prices negotiable. So is everything else. Also on file: inventory, character sheet.
Insert your files. This is the only paperwork.
Everything runs locally. Nothing is filed with anyone.
Play in the browser. You are now unsupervised.

Save archive

Slots mirror the engine's own SAVEGAME/SLOT## folders. Exports are plain .zip archives — they drop straight into a desktop install, and vice versa.

Game data

Re-importing replaces only the game files. Your saves and save archive remain untouched.
Erasing removes the imported game data and every save stored in this browser. Export all saves first if you want a backup. The save ZIP does not include the game files.

This is Fallout 2 version 1.0

Your disc is the original release. The official 1.02d patch fixes serious bugs — among them broken quests, a car that can vanish permanently, and save corruption. Almost nobody plays 1.0 on purpose.

The patch is a single file, patch000.dat. We don't host it and we never download it for you — it's Interplay's, and this app ships no game content. Get it from one of these, then drop it below.

Also own it on GOG or Steam? Those editions are built from the European release and already sit at 1.02, so importing that install folder is usually the shortest route — check it for a patch000.dat first, because whether one is present varies by store and platform. The patch below is the US 1.02d, which is the right one for a US retail disc.

No Mutants Allowed and ModDB both carry this patch too. We haven't linked them because neither would answer us when we checked, and we won't ship a link we couldn't open — search either site for “Fallout 2 patch 1.02d” if the above are down.

Drop the patch here

A patch000.dat, or the .zip you downloaded — we'll pull the .dat out of it. We check it really is a Fallout 2 archive before it goes anywhere near the engine.

You can add the patch at any time from the launcher — nothing is lost by playing first, though saves made on 1.0 are best restarted after patching.

The Restoration Project

Killap’s Restoration Project puts the cut content back — new locations, companions, quests and endings built from what Black Isle left on the floor — in its maintained form, RPU, from the BGforge community. As with the game itself, you bring its files from its own releases; nothing is hosted here.

Get the manual archive, not the installer. On the release page, download rpu_v*.zip (about 830 MB) — the .exe next to it is a Windows installer and no use in a browser. The translations add-on isn’t supported yet; the main archive plays in English.
Start a new game afterwards. The Restoration Project changes maps and scripts everywhere; saves from before it was installed are not compatible with it. It also replaces the 1.02 patch — RPU carries those fixes itself — so removing it later means adding the patch back.

Drop the archive here

The rpu_v*.zip you downloaded, whole. We pull out the mod archives and their load order, check them, and leave the Windows loader files behind.
